WANNA PLAY A LIL' GAME?

You know how life can sometimes feel dull and repetitive? You take the same way to work every single day (it’s the quickest), you stop for coffee at your usual spot (they know how you take it), you go to the usual store and buy the usual groceries, and when you get home you’re tired so you cook something easy and well known and maybe you eat it in front of your favorite show, because it takes your mind off things and gives you some excitement. Then you go to bed and next day is pretty much similar. Sometimes you think of breaking out of the routine and doing something crazy, something irrational and pointless and fun, but you’re comfortable so why bother?

I have at times been in this cycle and it’s an easy one to slip into. If I have worked somewhere for more than a few months I really lose my mind walking the same way , doing the same things in the same order, saying the same things to the same people and just repeating life like a broken record.

The other day I was hanging out with a kid. He’s 13 years old and I know him pretty well. He’s a cool kid, likes to seem like he’s a bit tough but he’s really just sweet and a bit shy. He can get a bit insecure sometimes and will most times shy away from a challenge.

He was playing a computer game when I was around and he was a bit annoyed - he was stuck on a level and couldn’t get further. He tried everything he could, looked for clues, everywhere, spoke to every person in the game in search of a hint, tried to open locked doors. He knew he was gonna make it, he just didn’t know how or when. He spent a long time figuring it out, and got more and more annoyed and stubborn, never considering to quit. Suddenly he screamed followed by a hearty laughter: he had made it! He leveled up! He was now in a completely new world, with all new features and possibilities, with new challenges to take on and daring quests to completed. He was thrilled and on a total adrenaline rush - it was time to explore all these opportunities. I have never seen him as excited.

And it made me think: Isn’t life like a game? What if we lived our life the same way we play a game, instead of letting the game be our source of entertainment and challenge ? So that when there’s something we want really really badly, we don’t stop till we get it. We ask everyone about it, we try every single option, we do it all again in a different order, we never give up. We have no doubt where we are headed or what it’s gonna be like, we just know it’s what we want and that it’s gonna happen. We go ahead with no fear of failing and no shame of trying. And then when we find the right way finally, a new world opens, with endless possibilities, unwalked paths and many levels up.

Because life can really be so adventurous and surprising and breathtaking when we let it - anything can happen anytime. We just gotta sometimes go and get it, keep trying, keep exploring and keep pushing with excitement for the unknown rather than with fear.

I will go out now and try to find keys for doors, magical people that can help me and portals for bonus levels.

Have fun playing your own game

Love
